Individualized Medical Plan ( IMP)
Cimarron
Animal Hospital is proud to offer its exclusive Individualized Medical
Plan, or IMP. Our IMP focuses on health promotion & disease
prevention through client education, semi-annual Comprehensive Wellness
Exams, and a series of early detection medical screenings. Each IMP is
specifically designed based on your cat or dog's age, breed, lifestyle,
health status, and unique individual needs.
|
 |
Comprehensive Wellness Exams
Our
Comprehensive Wellness Exams are performed on a semi-annual schedule
which can help your pet to live a longer, healthier life. Because dogs
and cats age much more quickly than humans, an exam that is performed
only once a year is similar to you visiting your doctor every 6-8 years
for a check-up.

 |
Eye Exam And Screenings
An
eye exam and screening tests for glaucoma, cataracts, tear production,
ulcers and injuries. Also detected via the eye are signs of anemia,
infections, jaundice, kidney problems, high blood pressure, and
other signs of internal disease.
|
 |
Tonopen for Glaucoma Testing
This
wonderful new device allows us to check the intraocular pressure (the
pressure inside the eyeball) as a screen for glaucoma in both dogs and
cats. There are 42 dog breeds that are predisposed to glaucoma. This procedure can be performed during an office visit. Results are instantaneous. Because the blindness
which results from untreated glaucoma is irreversible, early detection and
prevention are the keys!

 |
Teeth, Tongue, Gums Exams And Dental Treatment
During
a dental exam, Dr. Bohnke examines your pet's gums, teeth, tongue,
and tonsils. She will assess your pet's teeth for plaque & tartar, loose or fractured teeth, tumors, infection,
dental abnormalities and disease. Poor dental health can cause pain,
weight loss, liver, kidney, heart disease, and even death. We provide
dental cleanings, tooth extraction, peridontal therepy, plaque prevention treatment, and oral tumor surgery.
|
 |
Cardiac, Blood Pressure, And Respiratory Check
A
blood pressure check, ECG, and careful listening to your pet's heart
and lungs help detect abnormalities, as well as early heart & lung
disease.
|
 |
Reproductive Organs
Your
pet's reproductive system will be examined for lumps, swelling, and
discharge. It is in your pet's best interest to be spayed or neutered
to reduce the risks of breast and testicular cancer, birthing
complications, unwanted
litters, accidents and mishaps due to roaming.
|
 |
Skin And Coat Analysis
A
thorough check of your pet's coat and skin will give Dr. Bohnke a good
indication of your pet's overall health. She will check for warts and
tumors, as well as signs of allergies, nutritional needs, infections,
fleas, ticks, and other parasites.
|
 |
Fecal Exams for Intestinal Parasites
Fecal screenings can detect intestinal parasites such as roundworms,
giardia, hookworms, tapeworms, and whipworms. Some of these can be
transmitted to humans and can be very dangerous to children in
particular.
|
 |
Heartworm Testing
A blood test can be done to screen for heartworms, which can
infest your pet's heart and cause severe illness & death. Once negative, your dog can take a once-a-month treatment to prevent this tragic disease.
|
 |
Blood Chemistries, Electrolytes, And Complete Bood Counts
Routine
blood chemistries provide information concerning your pet's vital
organs such as the liver, gall bladder, kidneys, pancreas, parathyroid,
thyroid, and the intestines.
The
blood electrolytes help Dr. Bohnke evaluate causes of vomiting,
diarrhea, dehydration and heart symptoms.
The
Complete Blood Count (CBC), examines detailed information of Red Blood
Cells (RBC), White Blood Cells (WBC), which fight infection, and
platelets, which play a major role in blood clotting.
We can run these tests in-house for immediate results for sick patients or presurgical patients.
|
 |
Early Renal Disease And Urinalysis
An
Early Renal Disease (ERD) is a specific urine test which checks for
early kidney disease. We also run a conventional urinalysis to detect
abnormal levels of organ by-products which may indicate diabetes,
liver, and kidney disease.
|
 |
Valley Fever Testing And Treatment (Coccidioidomycosis)
Because
we live in the Sonoran Desert, we and our pets are susceptible to
valley fever or coccidiodomycosis. This disease is caused by the fungus
which is in the soil. Left untreated, valley fever can be debilitating
and even deadly. Having practiced for 16 years in Arizona, Dr. Bohnke has unique experience treating Valley Fever.
|
 |
Radiology
We
utilize radiographs (x-rays) to get a view of inside of our patients. We can also check for bone, leg, and spinal problems.
|
 |
Hip Dysplasia Screening
Dr. Bohnke can perform screening for this debilitating disease that effects young and old dogs (and even some cats) using expert physical exam techniques and screening x-rays.
|

Laboratory On-site
Our new state-of-the-art Laboratory allows us to obtain quick results on any serum and blood tests which we run in-house.
|
 |
Parvovirus Testing
We can determine within 10 minutes whether a puppy has this potenitally fatal disease and start treatment immediately.
|
 |
Feline Leukemia and Feline Immunosuppresive Virus Tests
Are used to diagnose these serious diseases in cats. We also use them to ensure that a cat is not infected prior to vaccinating
|
 |
Surgery
Dr.
Bohnke is a skilled surgeon. She offers various surgeries including:
spay, neuter, declaw, lumpectomy, mastectomy, cyst and tumor removal,
eyelid tacking, anal sac excision, enuculeation, limb amputation, gastrointestinal surgery, urinary bladder surgery, and diagnostic biopsy.
Prior
to surgery every patient recieves a thorough physical exam and a series of screenings to
help ensure that the patient is in good health for anesthesia. A
Certified Veterinary Technician (CVT), or veterinary nurse, monitors
the surgery patient using a Pulse Oximeter, Blood Pressure and
Respirator Monitors and an EKG. The CVT recovers the patient and pain
medication is administered as needed.
|
 |
Sevoflurane Anesthetic
Most
of our surgeries are done using the newest gas anesthetic, Sevoflurane.
The benefit of this new gas is seen primarily in the speed of induction
and recovery. Decreasing these times reduces the risk to your pet.
|
 |
Portable ECG (Electrocardiogram)
When
your pet is undergoing general anesthesia for any procedure, he or she
is always monitored with an ECG monitor which monitors heart function.
We
also have the capability to do ECG screenings as part of our
comprehensive physical examination to screen for Cardiomyopathy (especially in Boxers and Dobermans) and to monitor patients with heart disease and murmurs.. This is a painless, non-invasive
procedure which can be done right in the exam room. It can alert the
doctor to a cardiac problem before other signs occur.
|
 |
Blood Pressure Monitor
Your
pet's blood pressure will be monitored during all anethesia procedures. We are also able to check the blood pressure on pets
that are awake. This, too, can be done in the exam room.
|
 |
Behavior Modification Therapy
Dr. Bohnke can help pets with problem behaviors such as separation anxiety, inappropriate elimination, aggression, Obsessive-Compulsive Disorders, and fears and phobias. She provides a comprehensive plan of behavior training, special training techniques, diet and medication as appropriate for each patient based on a thorough analysis of the pet's behavior, lifestyle and environment All of this custom tailored to the human family's abilities and expectations.
|
 |
Rodent, Rabbit, and Ferret Medicine and Surgery
